Monumental (11/8) made it third-time-lucky today as the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt landed Gowran's Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden under jockey Wayne Lordan.
The Kingman colt disappointed on debut before finishing second to subsequent Group 3 winner Ides Of March on August 10 and today raced behind the leaders, before eventually staying well for a 2.5 lengths win over promising newcomer Tashir
Chris Armstrong representing trainer O’Brien, said “he did it nicely from the draw (wide in 9) and Wayne gave him a lovely ride and tracked the pace. He’d a good run the last day at the Curragh and the form has worked out well.
“Wayne thought that seven furlongs trip suits him well as he has plenty of pace and can travel off a good speed. He’s got a host of options now and is definitely a Stakes horse in the making. Maybe something like the Flying Scotsman at Doncaster or he could wait for the Legacy at Dundalk.”
