Permission was given for Tegerek (FR) to be mounted in the chute; Benny's Bridge (IRE) wore earplugs throughout the race.
An enquiry was held to consider the unruly behaviour of Tegerek (FR), which had planted in the chute and was very reluctant to go to post before again planting on the horse-walk and refused to go to the start which caused a delay to the start of the race and resulted in the gelding being withdrawn at 12:44pm.
The representative of Jonjo O'Neill was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
As Tegerek (FR) had also been unruly at Cheltenham on 15 November 2020, Jonjo O'Neill was informed that any future similar behaviour from the gelding may result in Tegerek (FR) being reported to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, with his representative’s comments that the gelding will likely be entered to run at a smaller track and wear a hood in the preliminaries in an attempt to improve Tegerek (FR)’s behaviour noted.
The performance of Benny's Bridge (IRE), which started joint-favourite and finished last of the fifteen finishers, beaten by 63¾ lengths, was considered.
Fergal O'Brien could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
It was noted that Nordic Combined (IRE), placed fifth, was badly hampered on landing after jumping the final hurdle by Haafapiece (GB) which had fallen at the flight.
