An enquiry was held to consider why Tim Vaughan was running Tight Call (IRE) here at Wincanton on going described as Good, Good to Soft in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Catterick Bridge on 1 January 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The representative of the trainer stated that they were happy for Tight Call (IRE) to take its chance over this longer trip of 2 miles 5 furlongs and 82 yards in the belief that the runners would be going slower than they would have done at Catterick Bridge over 2 miles 3 furlongs and 66 yards.
The performance of Dark Episode (IRE), which was pulled up, was considered.
Richard Johnson reported that the gelding stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination revealed Dark Episode (IRE) had a haematoma on its left fore knee.
Following the race, Mr Noel George reported that Kk Lexion (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed throughout.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Earlofthecotswolds (FR), placed fifth, lost its left fore shoe.
