Limerick Sun, 23rd Mar, 2025  Fun Fun Fun It has taken us a long time to figure out her best trip as over hurdles she was running too keen and doing too much. With more jumps, she gets a chance to breathe and is just so quick at her fences. We didn’t want to go to Cheltenham this year after her run in Exeter, but we drew a line through that. Maybe the Willow Warm Gold Cup (at Fairyhouse) could suit and I’d say we’ll be working backwards from the Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham next year with her.

Cheltenham Thu, 13th Mar, 2025  Caldwell Potter We switched him into John’s colours, I don’t think we even told the other boys we were going to do that and Pat (Hales, wife) is obviously delighted. I knew we had him right, he’s taken a long while to get right. He’s done some good work at home but he’s had some problems with his feet and that’s all disappeared of late. He had a positive plan, he jumps brilliant. Everyone was trying to tell me what to do and what not to do trip-wise, I felt he wants a trip and I think he’d gallop forever. It’s just good to get him back. He’s such a brilliant jumper and such a genuine horse. Just because he had a big price tag, he’s had to put up with plenty of stick but it doesn’t matter, when they come through that front gate, they’re all worth the same. You’ve just got to work away to get them right and today he was right.

Naas Sun, 9th Mar, 2025  Olympic Man Olympic Man isn’t becoming a good jumper but he’s getting good at being a bad jumper!. Even with his mistakes, he’s not losing ground and the only one really was when we were off-the-bridle going to the last where he lost a length. Once I galloped away from it, I always felt that I was picking Darragh (O’Keeffe on Foxy Girl) up. He was good and tough up the hill. I raced handily, but was trying to keep him even throughout: maybe in a staying handicap it won’t have as much pressure on his jumping.

Punchestown Mon, 3rd Feb, 2025  Vanillier It’s great to see Vanillier back winning again, as I thought he’d lost his way a bit. Just recently, for whatever reason, he’s really sharpened up and blinkers were a help today,. He’s entered in the National and we have the option of the Cross Country in Cheltenham, but I don’t know exactly where we’re going to go. I’m delighted that he’s back motoring again and he enjoyed it. He’s on a mark that he might not get into the National, but this run today might help. The fact that he’s in form and has Aintree form too, he (the handicapper) might give him a little bit more.

The Opera Hat back here next month could be a possibility. Karia Des Blaises jumped indifferently, which left her with too much to do, but she’ll get her turn and Iris Emery ran a cracker.
