Former point-to-point winner Native Speaker opened his account over hurdles when benefitting from a fine front-running ride by Rachael Blackmore to take the New Forest Estate & Golf Club Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan.
Trained by Henry De Bromhead, the six-year-old had finished runner-up on three occasions since going hurdling prior to filling third place at this track last month.
Always to the fore under Blackmore, the strongly supported 6/4f found plenty from two out as Uncle Pat threw down a sustained challenge.
Having seen off that rival entering the straight, the Court Cave gelding stayed on stoutly to record a well earned one-and-a-quarter-length success.
Robert Power representing Henry de Bromhead said: “He deserved to win a maiden hurdle. He’s had some good runs in maidens and I’m delighted for Paddy Hale (owner).
“I’d imagine we’ll be going straight over fences as he’s a brilliant jumper.
“He has plenty of experience, he stays really well and is a horse to look forward to in staying chases.”
