Killian Leonard completed a 230/1 double on Talk Now in the second divide of the Ladies Day At Roscommon On Monday 8th July 2019 Apprentice Handicap.
Previously trained by Ger Lyons and George Webb, Talk Now was making her debut for Adrian Joyce this evening, and with a mark of 43, she was sent off an unconsidered 20/1 chance.
Settled behind the leaders, the daughter of Finjaan was third entering the straight and was ridden from the two furlong pole.
She soon came with her challenge between horses and led inside the final 200 yards, keeping on well from there to score by two lengths. Kudbegood who was returned the 10/3 favourite, ran on well but couldn't reel-in the winner, and had to settle for second under Ross Coakley for John McConnell. Taceec was backed from 20s to 12s on-course, and he was another length and a half back in third.
Joyce said afterwards: "I'm very quite and only have four in for the summer. Things are tough at the moment and I'm trying to get in a few more. The last year has been tough to even keep open but I'm just trying to keep in there and get a few more horses.
"Longterm, I'd love to keep at it as I know nothing else but to keep going will be a tough battle. I'd need at least 20 horses to keep going and I'd definitely take anything, breaking or pre-training, anything."
Regarding Talk Now, Joyce added: "It was her first run for me and I don't have her that long. I told the lads I liked her as she had done a nice bit of work at the Curragh. She is a genuine, lowly rated filly that will go back for something similar next.
"We won't get carried away with her but she did her job and I'm delighted for Ger Murray, who owns her with his family. The family are from Ferbane and Ger's aunt died today so it will be a small boost for them."
Leonard was earlier successful on Sea The Dawn in the second.
STEWARDS REPORTS
R. Coakley, rider of Kudbegood, trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran around in the closing stages.
J.M. Sheridan, rider of Burren View Lady trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled during this race.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final one and a half furlongs involving Kudbegood, ridden by R. Coakley, placed second and Taceec, ridden by D.W. O'Connor, placed third, where it appeared that Kudbegood caused interference when making an outward manoeuvre. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judges placings. They did, however, consider that R. Coakley had caused interference by riding carelessly, this being a breach of Rule 214. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended R. Coakley for 1 raceday.
