Restricted licensed trainer Cian Hughes had his first winner today at Dundalk, as Deed Pole (9/2) landed the Floodlit Fridays At Dundalk Handicap under champion jockey Colin Keane.

Hughes had previously ‘endured’ six runner-up placings, including twice by Deed Pole in January, but today the five-year-old Noel Flanagan-owned gelding scored an all-out short-head win from Dromore Glory

Afterwards Hughes reported "I'm from Celbridge, I got the licence last summer and am mostly breaking and pre-training. We have plenty of horses around at the moment, we like to sell them and have a restricted licence at the moment.

"The horse deserved that, he was running well here and was crying out for that trip. He's a Poet's Word and he's just settling now. He might jump hurdles in the spring and summer.

"Colin is a top jockey and we were lucky to have him."

Jockey Keane had earlier scored on Tam Lin and went on to complete a treble in the concluding race, on Genoah
