Darcy’s Friend landed the gamble in the second division of the Cancer Fund For Children Charity Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown when scoring in good style on his first start for Emmet Mullins.

The Elusive Pimpernel gelding went to post a heavily supported 5/6 shot having been 11/2 in the morning.

Donagh Meyler’s mount had a scare at the first flight as he blundered his way through but it proved plain sailing afterwards.

The hotpot cruised into lead at the final flight and kept on well when asked for an effort on the run-in to beat Moylussa by a length-and-a-half.

Mullins said:- “Looking at the betting it wasn’t just me that saw his point-to-point form and he galloped away through the line.

“The further he was going, probably the better he was going and we wouldn’t be afraid to stretch him out in trip.

“He’s at the bottom end of the handicap but his homework had been good and hopefully he can go on again.”
