Permission was given for The Waiting Game (GB) to go early to post and be mounted on the chute and for Verdansk (GB) to wear a red hood to post and be mounted on the chute.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of KING’S GEM (IRE), ridden by Gina Mangan and trained by Deborah Faulkner, which jumped awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field, before making steady headway in the home straight to finish eleventh of twelve, beaten by 4¼ lengths.
Mangan and Faulkner’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer examined KING’S GEM (IRE) post-race and reported that the gelding was lame on its left fore.
Mangan stated that her instructions were to drop KING’S GEM (IRE) in from the wide draw in stall 10 and make sure the gelding settled into a nice rhythm.
Mangan explained that her mount was awkwardly into stride and outpaced due to the strong early gallop, a fact which she reported at Scales.
When questioned regarding her first use of the whip in the home straight and as to whether or not it was an air-shot, Mangan maintained that the whip had made contact, albeit lightly and thereafter the gelding was gradually making ground from approaching the final furlong as the pace up front collapsed.
Mangan indicated she was pleased with the performance of KING’S GEM (IRE) in the circumstances and felt the gelding had obtained the best possible placing.
Faulkner’s representative confirmed the instructions and expressed satisfaction with the manner in which KING’S GEM had been ridden on this occasion.
Their explanations were noted.
Approximately ½ furlong after the start, the slow into stride Hallowed Time (IRE), unplaced, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Golden Passport (GB), unplaced, which had shifted left-handed when sufficiently clear, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 furlong after the start involving Gobi Sunset (GB), unplaced, ridden by David Nolan, The Waiting Game (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Rossa Ryan and Brazen Idol (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Benoit de la Sayette.
The interference was found to be accidental as the very free running Brazen Idol (GB) was already being heavily restrained by de la Sayette, before having to check when unable to prevent the gelding from running onto the heels of The Waiting Game (GB), which had tracked across from out wide with Gobi Sunset (GB).
For some distance approaching the final furlong, Golden Passport (GB), unplaced, raced in restricted room when awkwardly placed to the inside of Captain Cuddles (IRE), unplaced, which edged slightly left-handed, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Finley Marsh reported that Hallowed Time (IRE), unplaced, reared leaving the stalls.
