As it was the second occasion within the previous 12 months that Intervention (GB) had been reported, a further report within the same period would mean the gelding would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the first furlong involving Vespasian (IRE), placed second, ridden by Robert Havlin; Abbey Heights (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Luke Morris; Intervention (GB), placed third, ridden by Oisin McSweeney; Rattling (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Alexander Voikhansky and Amber Dew (GB), unplaced, ridden by Kieran O’Neill.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Voikhansky was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
O’Neill was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed without timely correction when only half a length clear of Rattling (GB) carrying that filly off her intended line for several horses’ widths which in turn resulted in Abbey Heights (GB) being carried left off its intended line leaving both those runners and Intervention (GB) tight for room to his inside.
However, upon O’Neill belatedly attempting to correct Amber Dew (GB), the filly had taken a keen hold and hung left-handed despite his efforts leaving him unable to relieve the pressure to the runners on his inside due to the proximity of Vespasian (IRE) going forward on his outside.
This accentuated the extent of the interference and caused sustained crowding to Rattling (GB) and Abbey Heights (GB) whilst Intervention (GB) had to be severely checked on the rails.
