Permission was given for One More Wave (GB) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries.
Bright (IRE) lost its right-fore shoe on the way to the start.
As Mark Loughnane had not indicated at declaration stage that the gelding should be withdrawn in the event of losing a shoe, Bright (IRE) ran without its right-fore shoe.
An enquiry was held to consider 2 incidents of interference approximately 1 furlong after the start, involving the winner Bright (IRE), ridden by Billy Loughnane, Novak (GB), placed third, ridden by Andrew Mullen, Topo Chico (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Rossa Ryan, and Speedacus (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Harry Burns.
The first incident was found to be accidental as Loughnane had gone forward and ensured he was sufficiently clear of Novak (GB) before commencing his move from the three wide racing line into a one off the rail position and had effectively crossed that runner for several strides before, due to a combination of the pace steadying and Novak (GB) starting to run freely, Mullen had clipped the heels of Bright (IRE) causing Novak (GB) to stumble.
In the second incident, Burns was suspended for 5 days for careless riding as he had edged left-handed towards the rail when not sufficiently clear of Bright (IRE), causing that runner to clip his heels and stumble, which also resulted in a free-running Novak (GB) being badly hampered and in turn making heavy contact with the hindquarters of Topo Chico (IRE) which became unbalanced.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Golden Passport (GB), unplaced, lost its right-fore shoe.
Race 2 - 5:00pm.
THE WIN £2,000,000 WITH BETMGM'S GOLDEN GOALS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) The apparent improvement in form of the winner SWEET TALKIN SUE, which had never previously been placed, was considered.
The representative of Hugo Palmer explained that the filly had benefited from the first-time application of cheekpieces on this occasion.
Their explanation was noted and SWEET TALKIN SUE was routine tested.
Approximately 3½ furlongs out, SUPREME TENACITY (IRE), unplaced, edged slightly left-handed briefly inconveniencing STORM ALICE, unplaced.
However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final half furlong, involving DESERT RAIDER, placed third, ridden by Rossa Ryan, and FLY PASS (IRE), placed second, ridden by Daniel Muscutt.
Ryan was cautioned for careless riding as he had allowed his mount drift right-handed without timely correction brushing FLY PASS (IRE) which was carried off its intended line.
