Permission was given for Colorado Doc (GB) to leave the parade early and go straight to post due to the gelding’s history of unruly behaviour.
Having reviewed recordings of the false start, the Starters were satisfied that no riders should be reported for contravening the starting procedures.
The Stewards noted that as the tape was released from a standing start, Truckers Lodge (IRE), placed third, shifted left-handed at the same time as Highland Hunter (IRE), placed second; Kimberlite Candy (IRE), which was later pulled up; and Deise Aba (IRE), which was later pulled up, all veered right-handed, causing interference to Captain Drake (IRE), which was later pulled up; the winner, Iwilldoit (GB); Eva's Oskar (IRE), which was later pulled up; Achille (FR), placed fourth; and Hill Sixteen (GB), which was later pulled up, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of any runner.
The performance of Deise Aba (IRE), which was pulled up, was considered.
Philip Hobbs could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion.
The performance of Hold That Taught (GB), which was pulled up, was considered.
Venetia Williams’ explanation that she felt that the gelding had run well for a long way before making a mistake at the second-last fence when tiring, was noted.
Following the race, Jonathan Burke reported that The Big Dog (IRE) made a bad mistake at the ninth fence which caused the reins to go over the gelding’s head and when he regathered them, both reins were on the right side of The Big Dog (IRE)'s neck so he subsequently eased his mount out of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Potters Corner (IRE), which was pulled up, lost its right-hind shoe.
