An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference from after jumping the final fence involving the winner, Corach Rambler (IRE), ridden by Derek Fox, and Eva's Oskar (IRE), placed second, ridden by Alan Johns.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Corach Rambler (IRE)’s placing as Eva's Oskar (IRE) appeared to little momentum as a result of being intimidated off its intended line by Corach Rambler (IRE) and prior to the interference had already shown an inclination to drift right-handed, with the distance between the two runners at the line 2 lengths.
The interference was found to be accidental as Corach Rambler (IRE) had hung continually right-handed over a lengthy period after jumping the final fence, despite Fox’s efforts to correct the gelding, resulting in Eva's Oskar (IRE) being carried marginally off its intended line.
Derek Fox, the rider of the winner, Corach Rambler (IRE), was suspended for 4 days for using his whip above the permitted level and without time to respond from after jumping the final fence.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Coeur Serein (IRE), placed fourth, was struck into on its left-hind.
