An enquiry was held to consider whether Miss Emma Williams, the rider of Lightning Blue (GB), unplaced, trained by Samuel Drinkwater, had failed to weigh out for the first race.
Miss Williams, the Clerk of the Scales and a representative of Samuel Drinkwater were interviewed.
Miss Williams explained that this had been her first ride and she had been under the impression that having weighed on the Scales in the changing room with her Valet in attendance was all she needed to do, she had inadvertently bypassed Scales on her way out to saddle her mount.
As Miss Williams had weighed back in within the allowable parameters, the Stewards were satisfied that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race.
The Stewards accepted her explanation on this occasion but reminded her of her responsibility to ensure she weighs out before she rides.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong between the winner, Courtside (FR), ridden by Mr John Reddington and English Spirit (GB), placed second, ridden by Mr Henry Main.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Courtside (FR)’s placing as the gelding edged left taking English Spirit (GB) marginally off its racing line causing it to lose no momentum with its rider maintaining a hands and heels ride to the line.
The interference was found to be accidental as Mr Reddington shifted marginally left before both Courtside (FR) and English Spirit (GB) continued to drift slightly left independently off their intended lines on the run to the line.
