The Good Ting (GB), trained by J S Moore, finished third at Chelmsford City the previous day.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a pre-race examination deemed the filly fit to race.
The Stewards noted that in the back straight, Love Baileys (GB), placed third, was hampered by Orphiuchus (IRE), which was being pulled up after having sustained an injury.
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the bend entering the back straight involving Desert Mist (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Connor Murtagh and the winner, Doctor Churchill (IRE), ridden by Tom Queally.
Murtagh was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he had manoeuvred left-handed when insufficiently clear of Doctor Churchill (IRE), causing Queally to take a severe check against the rail.
Shortly after entering the back straight, a very free running Mops Gem (GB), placed fourth, improved quickly to the inside of Lady Of Desire (GB), placed sixth, and bumped that filly's hindquarters which caused Lady Of Desire (GB) to become unbalanced and then shift left-handed, moving Mops Gem (GB) across the running of Desert Mist (IRE), unplaced, which had to be checked on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Mops Gem (GB).
Approaching the final furlong, the winner, Doctor Churchill (IRE), hung left-handed away from the whip before being quickly corrected by its rider, carrying The Good Ting (GB), placed fifth, onto a weakening Nodsasgoodasawink (GB), placed eighth, which had to be briefly checked by its rider, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Doctor Churchill (IRE).
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Doctor Churchill (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
David Evans was interviewed.
His comments that the gelding had benefitted from the drop in grade, on this its first run in handicap company and had further appreciated a return to the Tapeta surface on this occasion, were noted.
Following the race, Phil Dennis reported that Spartakos (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed.
