Permission was given for New Exceed (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
Shortly after the start, a very free running Swiss Time (GB), unplaced, shifted left-handed when being restrained to avoid the heels of the winner, Technique (GB), which had edged marginally left-handed resulting in Noir Dame (IRE), unplaced, being tightened for room on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Benoit de la Sayette was questioned regarding his riding of Aureum (USA), which stayed on strongly in the home straight from an unpromising position to finish fifth of twelve runners, beaten 9¼ lengths de le Sayette stated that his instructions had been to break well from the stalls and ride the filly handy, ideally tracking the favoured runners New Exceed (IRE) and Save A Forest.
He explained that Aureum (USA) wore a blindfold for stalls entry and was wearing a barrier blanket for the first occasion today de la Sayette added that Aureum (USA) had jumped awkwardly and missed the break, possibly in his opinion due to the fright of the blanket being removed which meant that he had been forced to settle the filly much further back in the field than intended de la Sayette further explained that the very slow pace compounded his problems, and that from halfway down the back straight he had become pocketed inside Sentilly (FR) and behind Raajihah (GB), which dictated that he was unable to improve his position for some distance.
de la Sayette continued by saying on the bend leaving the back straight the leaders quickened up appreciably and got first run on him, whilst he had been unable to extricate himself out from the rail until approaching 2½ furlongs out, whereupon he immediately shifted Aureum (USA) out wider on the track and commenced to ride a finish, adding that the filly had stayed on pleasingly after having been left with too much ground to make up in the circumstances.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Aureum (USA), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities de la Soyette's explanation was noted.
Following the race, Martin Dwyer reported that Swiss Time (GB), unplaced, raced greenly, Gemma Tutty reported that Little Miss Moo (GB), unplaced, ran too freely and Dougie Costello reported that Raajihah (GB), unplaced, ran too freely before being denied a clear run later in the race.
