R.P. Whelan, rider of Lan Cinnte, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount drifted right in the closing stages
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the final furlong involving Adelaise, ridden by M.P. Sheehy, and Lan Cinnte, ridden by R.P. Whelan where it appeared Lan Cinnte shifted across Adelaise. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. M.P. Sheehy stated that Lan Cinnte drifted slightly across him but his race was run at that stage and no contact was made. R.P. Whelan stated that his mount lugged to the right and got lonely, at which point he pulled his whip through as soon as possible. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found R.P. Whelan in breach of Rule 214 in that they had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards cautioned him on this occasion.
An extended handicap for three years old and upwards fillies only that have run three or more times under any Rules of Racing on or before 19th June, 2023, at least one of those runs having been on or after 1st June, 2022 (100 = 10st) Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 7lb extra for each race won.
