Permission was given for Heatherdown (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to then line, when the winner, Brains (IRE), ridden by Nicola Currie, interfered with Heatherdown (IRE), placed second, ridden by Martin Harley, who in turn interfered with Lee Roy (GB), placed third, ridden by Kieren Fox.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Brains (IRE)’s placing as the momentum lost by Heatherdown (IRE) and Lee Roy (GB) as a result of the interference, was deemed to be less than the winning distance of ½ length.
Currie was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction carrying Heatherdown (IRE) and Lee Roy (GB) off their intended lines.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Brains (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Jamie Osborne was interviewed.
His comments that the gelding benefitted from a step up in trip from 6 furlongs to 1 mile and the first-time application of blinkers were noted and the gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, David Probert reported that Pot Luck (GB), unplaced, was never travelling.
