An enquiry was held into the running and riding of CHOCCO STAR (IRE), ridden by Joey Haynes and trained by Paul Howling, which was settled in the rear before staying on well in the home straight to finish eighth beaten by 8 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions had been to jump out and try to sit handy, however CHOCCO STAR (IRE) jumped awkwardly from the stalls, a fact which had been reported at Scales, causing him to have to race at the rear of the field. He further added that he had asked CHOCCO STAR (IRE) for its effort approaching two furlongs out, however then found himself behind a wall of horses, before then switching towards the rail and continuing to run on past weakening horses in the final furlong. The trainer confirmed the instructions and was satisfied with the manner in which CHOCCO STAR (IRE) had been ridden. Their explanations were noted.
