It's been a while since he won but he ran a great race in the premier handicap at Cork (last month), where he finished fourth,. We ran him in the Curragh the last day where he was drawn right out on the wing and he got very upset in the stalls and he ran very freely. He was in good form and we just felt that Fairyhouse would suit him, around a bend, that he'd be able to relax and drop it, which he did. Adam gave him a good ride, he was very cool on him. The plans for the boys are that they're always over for the end of July and that's where he'll go. I'll see what the handicapper gives him and we'll try and get him into those two big handicaps in Galway. If he's going to get in off his current mark I'll leave him but if not I might have to run him again. He's a horse of a lifetime and you just don't get many horses like him. Adrian McGuinness, trainer
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Adrian McGuinness, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Current Option, placed first, as compared with its most recent run. Adrian McGuinness reported that his charge got upset in the stalls the last day, was caught out wide and raced too keen throughout. He further added that today his charge settled much better. Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation given
Adam Caffrey, rider of Current Option, trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the last two furlongs
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident approximately two furlongs from home involving Tough Talk, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed fourth, Lexington Dash (FR), ridden by Siobhan Rutledge, placed third, and Desert Haven (GB), ridden by R. Whearty, unplaced, where it appeared Lexington Dash got tight for room on the rail
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Siobhan Rutledge stated that she committed to the gap up the rail and it just got tight momentarily. She further added that she let a shout and the gap opened back up. R. Whearty stated that once he heard the shout he corrected his mount as best he could. C.T. Keane stated that he kept a straight line the whole way up the straight. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards did not apportion blame to any rider and took no further action. Mr. M.C. Hickey recused himself from this enquiry and was replaced as Chairman by Mr. Charles Cunningham
