Mere Anarchy (IRE), trained by Robert Stephens, was late in the Parade Ring due to the trainer having to replace the gelding’s girth.
The winner, Caswell Bay (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Cheltenham on 13 December 2019 where the gelding finished twelfth of thirteen, beaten by 40½ lengths, in a Class 3 handicap hurdle.
Evan Williams’ explanation that Caswell Bay (GB) had benefitted from the drop in class to a Class 4 on this occasion and had appreciated the return to Chepstow, was noted.
Caswell Bay (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Evan Williams reported that Carpool (IRE), which was pulled up, was unsuited by the ground, which was officially described as Heavy on this occasion, and would prefer a faster surface.
