At the top of the hill, Daryl Jacob, the rider of SAINT D’OROUX (FR), unplaced, Kevin Sexton, the rider of the winner, Belfast Banter (IRE), and Robbie Power, the rider of Wolf Prince (IRE), unplaced, all had to switch right around the quickly weakening, Global Citizen (IRE), which was subsequently pulled up, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the second last hurdle involving SAINT D’OROUX (FR), unplaced, ridden by Daryl Jacob, and Wolf Prince (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Robbie Power.
After interviewing both riders and viewing recordings of the incident, the Stewards were satisfied that Jacob had maintained his line, on the inside racing line, towards the hurdle and Power, who had improved up the inside of Jacob, had become tight for galloping room in a confined space approaching the second last hurdle, resulting in contact between these runners who had become unbalanced prior to and after jumping the hurdle.
The Stewards in considering these factors were unable to apportion blame and as such deemed the interference accidental.
The performance of Global Citizen (IRE), which was pulled up, was considered.
David Bass reported that the gelding stopped quickly.
Ben Pauling could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Global Citizen (IRE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a small wound its left hind.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Wolf Prince (IRE), unplaced, had lost its left fore shoe and that Milkwood (IRE), placed third, had lost its left hind shoe.
Darragh O'Keeffe reported that You Raised Me Up (IRE), unplaced, lost its action and the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding was lame on its left hind.
