Permission was given for Recuerdame (USA) and Blue Dawn (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Grace McEntee was questioned regarding her riding of Weloof (FR), placed fifth, beaten by 3¾ lengths which stayed on evenly after being given a hands and heels ride from approaching the home turn.
McEntee stated that she had no specific instructions from the trainer and the plan was just to let the gelding settle where he was comfortable, most likely around mid-division and to ride him with confidence.
However, Weloof (FR) had been very slowly into stride, a fact she reported at scales and as the gelding had previously displayed a tendency to run freely in his races, she was reluctant to rev him up in order to recover the lost ground too quickly.
McEntee explained that she considered the pace was quite solid throughout, and having followed the winner, Plumette (GB) into the race from leaving the back straight, her intention had been to squeeze and cajole Weloof (FR) for as long as possible to keep the gelding interested and produce his best running.
She added that in her opinion the gelding had peaked on his run approaching the half-furlong marker and may not have seen the trip out strongly on this occasion, after having surrendered so much ground at the start.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Weloof (FR), during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider's explanations were noted.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Tavrina (GB), ridden by Stevie Donohoe and trained by Shaun Keightley, which settled at the rear of field, before coming wide around the home turn and staying on under apparent tender handling in the home straight to finish seventh of eleven, beaten by 6 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to drop the filly in, as she had been keen in her work at home and ride the race as he found it.
Donohoe explained that he had allowed Tavrina (GB) to find her feet early off a good pace, but the filly had then taken a strong hold going round the first bend when Weloof (FR) improved up his inside, and this left Tavrina (GB) doing too much work through the middle stages.
Donohoe added that leaving the back straight when following Couldn't Could She (GB), which wasn't travelling and after observing that Tally's Son (GB) was weakening back through the field quickly in the 3-wide line, he reluctantly committed to making a wide run around the field to improve his position on Tavrina (GB), so as to avoid being disappointed for clear running.
Donohoe further explained that the filly had hung left-handed inside the final 2 furlongs, a fact he had reported at scales and this had also prevented him from being able to place her under full pressure, adding that despite switching his whip through to the left-hand near the 1 furlong marker, and using it down the shoulder for correction with both hands on the reins, it had failed to have the desired effect and straighten Tavrina (GB) up either.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Joseph Lyons reported that Couldn't Could She (GB), unplaced, was denied a clear run approaching the final furlong, Marco Ghiani reported that his saddle slipped on Blue Dawn (GB), placed third, which also ran too freely and Georgia Cox reported that Tally's Son (GB), unplaced, was restless in the stalls, missed the break and hung badly left-handed throughout.
