It might not have been one we were expecting but that is the game we are in, they are mostly running well. I often get to Thursday with no winner so we weren’t panicking. I’d say the ground made the difference to this lad, and he was handy throughout. A lot of my others just couldn’t handle the ground. The winner is obviously a good horse on his day. I don’t know much about the jockey, but he’s had a few winners for us and seems a nice fella. Permission was given for both Ashdale Bob (IRE) and Camprond (FR) to wear red hoods to be removed at the start.
Champagne Gold (IRE) and Fastorslow (FR) to wear earplugs to be removed at the start.
The performance of Saint Felicien (FR), which started favourite and was pulled up, was considered.
Gordon Elliott's explanation that the gelding was unsuited by the Soft ground and would prefer a quicker surface was noted.
The performance of Drop The Anchor (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered.
P A Fahy's explanation that the gelding was never travelling and possibly did not see out 2 mile 5 furlong trip in the Soft ground was noted.
Following the race, Harry Skelton reported that Unexpected Party (FR), which was pulled up, stopped quickly; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Gordon Elliot reported that Mars Harper (GB), which was pulled up, was unsuited by the Soft ground and would prefer a quicker surface.
