Jack Mitchell, the rider of Superior Moment (IRE), was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Mitchell’s explanation that the blindfold had been tucked in tightly as the colt has a history of being able to shake it off, and despite loosening both sides as a start looked imminent, the blindfold had then got caught on the bridle and did not release cleanly at the first attempt was noted.
Following the race, Ben Curtis reported that Swell Swilly (IRE), unplaced, raced greenly and was also denied a clear run inside the final furlong.
