A query was raised to consider why Paul Henderson was running Abbey Street (IRE) here at Chepstow on going described as Good, Good to Soft in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Exeter on 9 March 2021 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that, having walked the course on both occasions, the ground at Exeter, in his opinion, was riding faster than described and he was happier with conditions at Chepstow.
Permission was given for Arthur's Reuben (GB) to wear a red hood to the start, go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
The stirrup leathers on Bignorm (IRE) broke on the way to post causing a delay to the start of this race whilst replacement leathers were fitted.
As the old leathers were found to be in a serviceable condition on inspection after the race, no further action was taken.
The winner, Arthur's Reuben (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Uttoxeter on 21 February 2021 where the gelding was pulled up on Heavy ground.
Sean Curran’s representative’s explanation that Arthur's Reuben (GB) had benefited from the better ground, which was officially described as Good, Good to Soft in places on this occasion, was noted.
Arthur's Reuben (GB) was routine tested.
