An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the final furlong involving Birchdale (IRE), placed third, ridden by Aidan Coleman; Son Of Camas (FR), unplaced, ridden by Nico de Boinville; Topofthecotswolds (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies; Dr Sanderson (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Harry Cobden and The Flying Sofa (FR), placed fourth, ridden by Jamie Moore.
Coleman was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his horse to shift right-handed without timely correction, causing both Son Of Camas (FR) and Topofthecotswolds (IRE) to have to be checked.
At the same time, The Flying Sofa (FR) hung marginally left-handed, carrying Dr Sanderson (IRE) slightly off its intended line, resulting in Topofthecotswolds (IRE) and Son Of Camas (FR) being further crowded for room.
The performance of Son Of Camas (FR), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Nicky Henderson could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion other than a report from the rider that Son Of Camas (FR) stopped quickly.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
