An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Deputy Jones (IRE), ridden by Robert Dunne and trained by Neil Mulholland, which travelled well in mid division until being tenderly handled in the home straight to finish sixth of twelve, beaten by 7 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to jump away handy and to give Deputy Jones (IRE) plenty of daylight as she has fallen previously.
He explained that the mare was travelling well and he was happy with his position down the back straight until rounding the final bend when he got boxed in by runners causing him to lose his position.
He added that Deputy Jones (IRE) had jumped awkwardly at the second last hurdle and then could only finish on at the one pace and in his opinion, the mare achieved her best possible placing.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Adam Wedge reported that GRANIA O’MALLEY (IRE), which finished last of the twelve runners, was never travelling and the representative of Dan Skelton reported that Robin Gold (IRE), unplaced, made a noise.
