Approaching 1 ½ furlongs out Rayyan (GB), which was subsequently demoted to third following a separate incident, hung left handed causing the rider of Red Stripes (USA), placed fifth, to take a check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Rayyan (GB) as a result of this interference.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from approximately 1 ½ furlongs out involving Rayyan (GB), placed second, ridden by Clifford Lee, Samovar (GB), placed third, ridden by Luke Morris, the winner Tom Tulliver (GB), ridden by David Nolan and Scale Force (GB), placed fourth, ridden by George Rooke.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Rayyan (GB)’s placing as the interference caused to Samovar (GB) caused the gelding to be carried off its intended line with the rider forced to ease for several strides before switching his mount and staying on to be beaten a fast finishing and diminishing ½ length.
The placings were revised as follows: Second: Samovar (GB), Third: Rayyan (GB).
The Stewards were satisfied that Rayyan (GB) did not improve its placing in relation to the interference caused to Scale Force (GB).
Lee was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he failed take sufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting left-handed, initially causing interference to Samovar (GB) approaching 1 ½ furlongs out and latterly continuing to allow Rayyan (GB) to drift left-handed approximately ½ furlong out carrying Tom Tulliver (GB) off his intended line which in turn caused Rooke to be steadied against the rail.
Following the race, Kieran O’Neill reported that Alba Del Sole (IRE), placed sixth, was slowly away.
Harrison Shaw reported that Red Stripes, placed fifth, hung left-handed under pressure.
George Rooke reported that Scale Force (GB), placed fourth, suffered interference approximately ½ furlong out.
