Having been examined by the Veterinary Officer and Doctor respectively, both were deemed fit to race.
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the run to the line involving Aucunrisque (FR), placed fourth, ridden by Tom Cannon and Top Dog (IRE), placed second, ridden by Tom Bellamy.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Top Dog (IRE)’s placing as when the interference occurred, Top Dog (IRE) was making rapid headway to pass Aucunrisque (FR) and after the interference, when Aucunrisque (FR) had regained its balance, Top Dog (IRE) was still going way to beat the gelding by the distance of a neck and 1/2 length.
The interference was found to be accidental as Top Dog (IRE) ducked sharply left-handed away from the whip, before being quickly corrected by Bellamy.
Niall Prendergast, the rider of Ocean Of Mercy (IRE), placed third, was interviewed regarding his use of the whip.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Prendergast was given the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident, the Stewards found that Prendergast was not in breach.
Following the race, Tom Cannon reported that Aucunrisque (FR), placed fourth, stumbled when coming down the hill, Sam Twiston-Davies reported that Shuil Donn (IRE), unplaced, ran too freely, Tom O'Brien reported that Braganza Bay (GB), unplaced, hung badly right-handed and Tom Scudamore reported that Askinvillar (IRE), unplaced, hung badly left-handed.
