It surprised everybody. We were schooling him over hurdles at home and we said the ground would be good at Leopardstown and we'd have a go here and see what happens. I'm delighted and Barry gave him a grand ride, he knows him of course and does all the schooling. It was just a matter of getting him here today and see how he goes so I've no plans. The Stewards requested a report from Oliver McKiernan, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Fox Fearless (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form over hurdles at Limerick 29th December and Punchestown 18th January. Oliver McKiernan reported that his charge lost ground at the start at Punchestown and was unable to handle the very testing conditions at Limerick. He added that since then his charge had run twice on the AWT at Dundalk and had handled the quicker surface. In his opinion his charge appreciated the good to yielding ground conditions today and that brought about the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
An extended handicap hurdle for four years old and upwards rated 80-109 Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 12st and the minimum weight shall not be less than 9st 12lbs Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap shall carry 5lb extra for each hurdle race won. Riders - Confined to Professional Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules who have not lost the right to claim the allowance under Rule 52 (iii). Allowances - (which are not cumulative, up to and including 4th March) Riders who have not ridden the winners of 25 *races allowed...........4lb Those who have not ridden the winners of 40 *races allowed..........2lb No allowance under Rule 52 (iii) may be claimed *Including races under any N.H.
