See also » Phils-Dream-causes-501-upset-in-Dundalks-opener he has been frustrating. He has always worked well and hasn't delivered and we have tried everything. Derek (Kierans, owner) has been very patient with him. He was dropping down to five (furlongs) and, looking at that, he would definitely stay six. We thought he would run very well at six two runs back but didn't, and we couldn't find a reason. Maybe the whole thing will make a man of him, and he might go forward. Somebody must have had a little whisper in his ear telling him he was in the last-chance saloon!. it is great to get him up and Donagh did very well there because he got checked just when he needed to get out and got him up on the line. He'll keep going over five and six here. He (handicapper) can't be too harsh as it was a nose and sometimes with these sprinters when the penny drops, it really drops. John C McConnell, trainer
The Raceday Stewards granted a request from H.D. McGuigan trainer of Nearly A Gonna for an additional ten minutes to present the animal for identification by an IHRB official, as provided for under the provisions of Rule 90(i)
H.J. Horgan, rider of Havana Notion (GB), trained by John James Feane, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the straight
The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident in the closing stages involving Bonny Power, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed third, Astral Beat, unplaced, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, and Phil's Dream, ridden by D.W. O'Connor, placed first, where it appeared that Phil's Dream was briefly short of room. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted
The Raceday Stewards enquired into the start of this race where it appeared stalls one and twelve may have opened a fraction earlier than the other stalls. Evidence was heard from the IHRB Starter Mr. P. L. Malone, who confirmed that the stalls were tested before racing as is standard practice. He added that Haumea, drawn in stall one and Adams Barbour in stall twelve seemed to anticipate the start resulting in the other stalls opening fractionally slower. Having viewed all the footage and considered all the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that although the other stalls appeared to open fractionally slower than stall one and twelve they were satisfied that Haumea and Adams Barbour did not gain a material advantage so they allowed the result to stand. Furthermore they requested that the stalls be tested again before the next race
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from John C. McConnell, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Phil's Dream, placed first, as compared with its recent form. John C. McConnell reported that the horse has been disappointing on previous runs and was unable to offer an explanation for todays improved performance
Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report
