She'll get a mile and four whether it is this year or next year but she will definitely stay on the team next year for the Kalmansons (owners) - they are South African based brother and sister and they joined us in the last few years and are lovely, lovely people. They leave it to us. That is as quick a ground as she wants. Colin gave her a lovely confident ride. He is top class and the confidence goes through to fillies like that. She actually thought she was going better than she was. The further she was going, she came into it. Colin mentioned there is a chance she will get black-type whether it is the end of the year or next year. Ultimately, that's the main aim. G M Lyons, trainer
W. Joyce, rider of True Artist trained by Gerard O'Leary, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stood in the stalls when they opened and then jumped out slowly
C.D. Hayes, rider of Compere (GB) trained by D. K. Weld, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got tight for room close to the line and he had to sit but this did not affect his final placing
R.P. Whelan, rider of Tommythelongfella trained by Anthony McCann, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got upset in the starting stalls, was slowly away and ran green
The Stewards interviewed S.R Markey, rider of Stepping Sandstone, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, S.R. Markey stated that he thought that his mount would pass a few horses. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that S.R. Markey was in breach of R10(3)(b) by using his whip unnecessarily when his chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended S.R. Markey for one raceday. Anthony McCann, Master of S.R. Markey, attended this enquiry.
