An enquiry was held into the running and riding of SECRET POTION, ridden by Jason Watson and trained by Ronald Harris, which after jumping well from the stalls, drifted back through the field when outpaced in the middle stages, before appearing to be eased inside the final 17 furlongs to finish twelfth, beaten by 7 ½ lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race. The rider stated that his instructions were to jump out and sit handy, however the gelding had jumped awkwardly from the stalls and then never travelled with any fluency on the Soft ground. He added that SECRET POTION was loaded into the stalls late and became quite edgy, which meant he had become distracted and despite wearing two sets of goggles had forgotten to pull a set down prior to the race being started. He further added that once the gelding got shuffied back in the field approaching the 3 furlong marker, his visibility had worsened due to the excess amount of kickback hitting him in the face. Watson also stated that near the 2 furlong marker he attempted to pull a set of goggles down but was unsuccessful, and given that SECRET POTION had failed to respond to his prior urgings, felt the safest course of action in this set of circumstances was not to continue trying to ride a finish when he was struggling to see where he was going, a fact he had reported at Scales. The rider's explanation was noted.

Just inside the 1 furlong marker, MABLE LEE (IRE), placed fourth, lugged quickly left-handed away from the whip, tightening ASTROPHYSICS, placed eighth, for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of MABLE LEE (IRE).

The winner, SEAMSTER, appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Nottingham, on 17 October 2018 where the gelding finished eleventh of fourteen, beaten by 7 ½ lengths on Soft going. David Loughnane's explanation was noted that the gelding had been better suited by the fresh Soft ground on this occasion, rather than the drying, tacky Soft ground last time out where SEAMSTER never travelled. The gelding was routine tested.
