An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 ½ furlongs out, involving Mahanakhon (GB), unplaced, ridden by Sean Kirrane, Bashful (GB), placed third, ridden by Andrew Mullen and Pillar Of Hope (GB), unplaced, ridden by Oliver Stammers.
Hollie Doyle, the rider of Verona Star (IRE), unplaced, and Tom Eaves, the rider of Shaladar (FR), placed second, were also interviewed but found not to be involved in the interference.
Kirrane was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he made a misjudgment when moving left-handed for an insufficient gap in between Pillar Of Hope (GB) and Verona Star (IRE), causing Pillar Of Hope (GB) to be moved onto Bashful (GB), causing the two runners to lean inwards, resulting in Kirrane and Stammers to check their mounts for a number of strides.
The winner, Young Fire (FR), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Ripon on 22 July 2023 where the gelding finished eight of twelve, beaten by 14 ½ lengths.
David O’Meara’s representative’s explanation that Young Fire (FR) benefited from the drop in grade was noted.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that Verona Star (IRE), unplaced, hung both ways.
