ITS A LADYS DEAL made virtually all and jumped from fence to fence to upset hot favourite Candy Girl. The former point-to-point winner is a big, strapping mare and Tom Treacy got her into a nice rhythm up front. She knuckled down well when challenged by the market leader in the straight, and found plenty on the run-in to win going away. Victory over this two and a quarter mile trip opens up a variety of options as she undoubtedly stays further, and trainer Mags Mullins (also a part-owner) has some black type on her mind as she nominated the Grade 3 Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase at Limerick on Sunday March 16 as a likely target. She could be a late developing type, and may progress further.
CANDY GIRL was in a different league to the winner over hurdles but, having jumped adequately and patiently crept into the race, the evens favourite could find no extra when asked to challenge in the straight. This was just her second start over fences having fallen two out here when holding every chance last month, and she's sure to win her share in mares' events.
GRAPEVINE SALLY and ALL HEART, who attracted some support in morning price lists (10/1 to 6/1), were both in the chasing group throughout but could only keep on at one pace from two out.
