An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference between the second-last hurdle and the final hurdle when the winner Lets Go To Vegas (IRE), ridden by Jonathan Burke, interfered with Merry Poppins (GER), placed second, ridden by Brian Hughes.
It was established that Lets Go To Vegas (IRE) had shifted quickly right-handed approximately 1¼ furlongs out and made contact with Merry Poppins (GER) unbalancing that mare.
After taking into account the material extent of the interference suffered by Merry Poppins (GER) alongside the manner in which both horses finished the race off, which included Merry Poppins (GER) levelling up with and arguably heading Lets Go To Vegas (IRE), before appearing to be held on the run to the line and beaten by a head margin, the Stewards were unable to be satisfied that had the interference not occurred Merry Poppins (GER) would have finished in front of Lets Go To Vegas (IRE) and accordingly ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The interference was found to be accidental in that Lets Go To Vegas (IRE) moved quickly right-handed and bumped Merry Poppins (GER).
The performance of Flying Nun (IRE), which finished unplaced, beaten by 18 lengths, was considered.
Emma Lavelle’s explanation that the mare was unsuited by the slow pace of the race on this occasion was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Flying Nun (IRE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Eddie Edge reported that Terresita (IRE), which started favourite and finished fourth, hung right-handed throughout.
