Shane Quinlan, the rider of the winner, Asockastar (IRE), was suspended for 4 days for using his whip above the permitted level from the third-last hurdle.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Envol De La Cour (IRE), ridden by Richard Patrick and trained by Michael Scudamore, which was held up at the rear of the field before being asked for a meaningful effort shortly after the third-last hurdle to finish seventh of fourteen, beaten by 22½ lengths.
The rider and trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop in, get Envol De La Cour (IRE) to settle and finish his race as the gelding has a history of running keen and has previously been ridden in this manner.
He explained that even after dropping in Envol De La Cour (IRE), the gelding still ran keen at stages throughout the race; a fact he reported at scales.
He further explained that a combination of Envol De La Cour (IRE) racing awkwardly in the final part of the home turn and failing to settle throughout the race, resulted in him being mindful of asking the gelding for an effort too soon; but in his opinion managed to stay on passing tired horses, making no ground for the final 100 yards.
The trainer stated he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given, whilst further adding that Envol De La Cour (IRE) may have been outclassed on this occasion in a 0-120 Handicap.
As a conclusion, he therefore intended to run the gelding in a 0-110 Handicap next time out and in his opinion, Envol De La Cour (IRE) may benefit from a wind operation in the future.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Richard Patrick reported that Envol De La Cour (IRE), placed seventh, ran too free throughout the race.
