The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr.P.L.Malone, that C. Gethings, rider of Coherent, weighed in 1.9lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 231(iii) and having considered his clean record, suspended him for one race day. The Stewards requested a report from Seamus Fahey, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of The Informer, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on his last start at Roscommon over three miles. The horse was subsequently given a break and freshened up before today's improved showing, dropped to two miles on soft ground. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered. C. Brassil, rider of Afatcat (GB) trained by S.J.Mahon, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount struck into itself and sustained an injury. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Papal Motel, trained by Andrew McNamara, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mezajy trained by Denis Gerard Hogan was distressed post race.
