A race marred by the death of Corrigeenroe, who was upsides in front and in contention when falling two out. He had not won since December 2004 but tragically broke his leg here.
Jessica Harrington's horses are in excellent form at present and her Oscar Honey showed the benefit from a good chase debut at Gowran last month. The gelding improved to lead after two out and a slightly better jump than runner-up Macs Mandalus at the final fence, settled the issue. Oscar Honey is a promising type and can win more chases.
Macs Mandalus has a rating of 116 over hurdles but was outbattled from two out here. He looks sure to win a beginners' chase soon and can win his share of handicap chases in time.
Lukie Victor, a stablemate of the winner, ran an encouraging race when staying on well to take a never dangerous third. He is rated 16lbs below Macs Mandalus over hurdles and this was a good effort on his chase debut.
Rory's Pleasure won a maiden hurdle at Punchestown last time out and ran reasonably well to take fourth.
Comedien, runner-up in two point to points, will be interesting in future handicaps following a decent showing here while three time hurdle winner Pearl's A Singer was making her chase debut but was never in contention.
Non-runners were Domhnach Mor (lame) and two reserves.
