1st - €11,747.00, 2nd - €2,890.00, 3rd - €1,360.00, 4th - €850.00 10 Ran Wickford got off the mark over fences here in the race which Grand National favourite Royal County Star won last year and a similar long term plan could be on the agenda for this fellow according to trainer Colm Murphy.
Murphy also stated, ?He doesn't kill himself and I would think there is plenty in the locker when you want it.? The trainer was referring no doubt to the way his charge wore down his rivals taking the lead after the last and going on to score by a half a length.
The winner was settled in behind the leaders by Tom Doyle and indeed he was the recipient of a reminder with a circuit to go which just kept his mind on the game for the rest of the trip. His jumping was better than before with room for more improvement and the first time cheek pieces no doubt helped his concentration throughout.
Charlie Swan's Rory's Pleasure was stepping up in class on this occasion and done himself no harm at all. He was held up until about five out when he crept closer and went third. He jumped the last upsides with Dontwakedtrainer - the eventual winner was half a length back in third. The extra two-furlongs may not have been ideal and he should be seen winning over two and a half on similar ground.
Dontwakedtrainer was always prominent and took up the running with eight fences to go but despite his brave effort he just couldn't hold on in the dying stages. He had relatively average bumper form behind Cheltenham participants Drive On Regardless and Lilywhitedancer and fences is undoubtedly set to be his forte and a similar contest should not be beyond him if he can progress ever so slightly on this chasing debut.
Parrot Cay was held up by Ruby Walsh but despite coming closer nearer the business end he could never challenge the leading group with any intent and really ran to the capabilities he showed last time out.
Favourite Judge Deed was struggling from a long way and just never jumped well enough to be capable of making the frame. He looked a worthy favourite on the form book but it was a somewhat disappointing effort.
