The Stewards considered evidence from Dr John Kennedy, Turf Club Medical Officer, regarding the fitness of D. N. Russell to ride in this race. Dr. Kennedy confirmed that he was declaring D. N. Russell unfit to ride in this race under Rule 125 (x) as he was suffering from a continuing nose bleed but he would review his fitness throughout the day. Having considered the evidence the Stewards allowed the substitution of D E Mullins for D N Russell for this race.
An extended handicap steeplechase for four yrs old and upwards mares only which are EBF eligible (140 = 11st 10lb) Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase or steeplechases after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper. Any horse rated above 140 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 140 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 140 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
