The Stewards received a report from Dr John Kennedy, Turf Club Medical Officer, before the running of the fifth race stating that D. N. Russell was now fit to ride. The Stewards interviewed A.J.Martin, trainer of Dedigout, regarding the late arrival of the horse into the Parade Ring. Evidence was heard from the trainer who stated that this horse had broken its tongue strap during saddling and he was forced to source a new one and fit it which accounted for the unfortunate delay. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
