D.E. Mullins, rider of Shinrock Paddy, trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount burst blood vessels in running. The Stewards interviewed J.S. McGarvey, rider of Orpheus Valley, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f) having used the whip with excessive frequency and having considered his record, suspended him for three race days. The Stewards interviewed Paul Nolan, trainer, having received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that Shinrock Paddy had burst blood vessels in running. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned who stated that since this had happened the horse in the past, he and the owner had decided to retire him. Having considered all the evidence, and on the basis of an assurance from the trainer that the horse would not run on the race track again, the Stewards took no further action.
An extended handicap steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards rated 0-140 Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each such steeplechase won.
