Permission was given for Stone Of Destiny (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring and for Mondammej (GB) and Get Boosting (GB) to go early to post.
Leaving the stalls, Recon Mission (IRE), placed sixth, jumped right as Ornate (GB), unplaced, jumped left causing Blue De Vega (GER), unplaced, and Lord Riddiford (IRE), placed fifth, to be squeezed for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Recon Mission (IRE).
Approaching 4 furlongs out, Recon Mission (IRE), placed sixth, changed leg and shifted right carrying Ornate (GB), unplaced, ridden by Phil Dennis, off its intended line causing Dennis to momentarily ease off the heels of Son And Sannie (IRE), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Recon Mission (IRE).
Approximately 1 furlong out, the winner, Mokaatil (GB), ridden by David Egan, was switched left and then continued to drift left-handed, despite Egan’s best efforts, causing Ray Dawson, the rider of Recon Mission (IRE), placed sixth, to momentarily steady his mount, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Mokaatil (GB).
The winner, Mokaatil (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Chester on 6 May 2021 where the gelding finished eighth of nine, beaten by 9 ¾ lengths.
It was noted that Ian Williams could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
Mokaatil (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Cam Hardie reported that Mondammej (GB), placed fourth, hung left-handed and George Rooke reported that Pettochside (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed and was denied a clear run approximately 1 1/2 furlongs out.
