P. Townend, rider of Augusta Kate (GB) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was never on the bridle. The Stewards enquired into an incident rounding the bend into the home straight, involving Airlie Beach, ridden by D.E. Mullins, placed second and Apple's Jade (FR), ridden by B.J. Cooper, placed first, where it appeared Airle Beach ran short of racing room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.J. Cooper was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having considered his previous record in this regard, the stewards cautioned him.
