An enquiry was held to consider why Eve Johnson Houghton was running Kiefer (GB) here at Ascot on going described as Good to Soft, having declared the colt a non-runner at Newbury on 19 July 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that having walked the course, in her opinion the going at Newbury was riding slower than described and after walking the course at Ascot today and following discussions with Kiefer (GB)’s rider she was happy for the colt to take its chance on what she considered better ground.
Approaching the 2 furlong marker, Production (GB), unplaced, hung left-handed before being corrected by its rider, causing Mutamaded (IRE), unplaced, to be steadied and switched around its heels, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approximately 2 furlongs out, Kiefer (GB), placed third, edged left-handed at the same time as Mutamaded (IRE), unplaced, shifted right-handed, resulting in Ravenous (GB), unplaced, being tightened for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Kiefer (GB).
Following the race, Nicola Currie reported that Tralee Hills (GB), unplaced, was never travelling.
