The performance of Summer Romance (IRE), which started favourite and finished sixth, beaten by 3½ lengths, was considered.
Charlie Appleby could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance other than the Veterinary Officer reporting that a post-race examination of Summer Romance (IRE), during routine testing, revealed the filly finished lame on its right hind.
Just inside the 2 furlong marker, Aroha (IRE), placed second, edged slightly left-handed, causing Dark Lady (GB), placed fourth, to be steadied and switched to avoid heels, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Aroha (IRE).
Approximately 1 furlong out, So Sharp (GB), unplaced, lugged right-handed at the same time as Dark Lady (GB), placed fourth, edged left-handed, causing a weakening Flaming Princess (IRE), unplaced, to be checked in its run, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Dark Lady (GB).
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer further reported that So Sharp (GB), which started joint-second favourite and finished unplaced, lost its right hind shoe.
