She loves that heavy ground. We had thought about giving her a break but she comes out of her races so well and, if the ground stays soft, we may keep going. Tom (Madden) gave her a great ride. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of My Painter, ridden by M.C. Hussey, and trained by Denis Gerard Hogan. Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned. Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer, stated that that this filly had run twice in Ireland since being purchased in the U.K. He advised the Stewards that she had fractured her pelvis as a two year old and appeared to be of average ability. He stated that he had instructed the rider to pop out of stalls and let her find her feet, get her into a rhythm and to do his best but was not to use the whip unless one or two hits were necessary as she was genuine and gives her best. He added that he was delighted with the run but thought that she should have won if the rider had been more forceful in the closing stages. M.C. Hussey, rider, confirmed the instructions as stated by the trainer and added that he got a good clear run along the rails and had Northern Surprise ridden by D.P. McDonogh in his sights as the only horse that had to be passed to achieve a victory. He admitted that he never saw the winner Bobby Jean racing on the far side until he had reached the winning post and therefore took full responsibility for losing a race that he should have won. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that My Painter was post race normal. The Stewards ordered that samples be taken from My Painter for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation of Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer. They were, however, satisfied that M.C. Hussey was in breach of Rule 212 (a)(i) by he failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that his horse was given a full opportunity to win or of obtaining her best possible place and consequently suspended M.C. Hussey for 14 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. The Stewards requested a report from Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of My Painter, placed second, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this filly ran very keen on her most recent start but had begun to settle well at home during all exercise. He added that he was surprised with today's very good run and had originally thought that she needed better underfoot conditions. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (80 = 10st)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 80 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 80 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 80 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
