Permission was given for Sterling Knight (GB) to wear a red hood to the start and for both Just Frank (GB) and Emperor Spirit (IRE) to go early to the start wearing a red hood.
Approaching the final furlong, Aplomb, unplaced, was hampered and had to be switched right-handed when it ran onto the heels of a weakening Air Raid (GB), unplaced, which in turn resulted in Magical Spirit, unplaced, being briefly inconvenienced, but having viewed a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two incidents of interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Sterling Knight (GB) ridden by Rhys Clutterbuck and Sky Blue Pink (GB), placed third, ridden by Rob Hornby.
In the first incident, approaching the half furlong marker, it was found that Sterling Knight (GB) had moved sharply left-handed into the path of Sky Blue Pink (GB) causing Hornby to be checked in his run.
In the second incident, on the run to the line, it was established that Sterling Knight (GB) had hung right-handed slightly impeding Sky Blue Pink (GB).
The Stewards considered that the two incidents of interference had not improved Sterling Knight (GB)’s placing as that gelding had finished strongly from the rear of the field and always appeared to be holding Sky Blue Pink (GB), which was beaten 1½ lengths, both before and after the interference.
The first incident was found to be accidental as Sterling Knight (GB) had hung quickly left-handed before being swiftly corrected by Clutterbuck.
In the second incident, Clutterbuck was cautioned for careless riding as he was adjudged to have been slow in correcting his mount from hanging right-handed, thereby causing minor interference to Hornby.
